I was intrigued by the thought of focusing on global culture, mission, the 2/3rds world, and how the church can respond at this time. The “Edward Said On Orientalism” video furthered my interest by explaining the distortion of stereotypes—specifically in “Orientalism”—by those who do not understand that culture. I did not realize that conquerors such as Napoleon took scientists, etc., to study the culture they were facing so as to conquer/subdue them easier. I was appalled! I plan to study other cultures in order to understand them better and to share God’s love more effectively in their native ways.
